Ed Mehlberg

Edward Mehlberg has a love for coaching that extends beyond the limits of a single sport. He has coached 5 different sports, boys and girls over the course of his 44 year career. The majority of his seasons were spent coaching boy’s and girl’s basketball where he amassed a 466-231 and 457-92 record, respectively. In addition to basketball, Ed spent 12 seasons coaching cross country, 18 coaching baseball, 4 coaching track, and 2 coaching softball. Over the course of his coaching years, his teams make up 38 League Championships, 28 District Championships, 9 Regional Championships, 2 Final Four appearances and State a Championship.

In addition, Ed has been recognized as MHSCA Coach of the year twice and was inducted into the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan Hall of Fame in 1998. He has also served as Commissioner of the Michigan Independent Athletic Conference for 15 years. His coaching style has been described as “dynamic,” demanding discipline and excellence of his athletes while building relationships of respect. Even though Ed has a great number of accolades  across a variety of sports, he describes his greatest highlight of his coaching career was being able to coach both of his children, and later coaching with his son.
