Don Markel

      Cass City High School

Don Markel enters the Michigan High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame with  40 years of coaching experience across 3 sports including wrestling, football, and track. Over the course of coaching career Don has accrued over 600 wins leading to 12 league titles, 8 district titles and 8 regional titles. Don has also been recognized for his coaching prowess earning regional and county coach of the year honors for wrestling.

     Don has over 34 years of teaching experience and has spent time as a principle and athletic director in the Cass City Public Schools. He has a love of working with students and athletes, helping them to grow into young men and women. He is described as having an enthusiasm and innovativeness that has helped to grow several programs. Don has “no plans to quit any time soon” and continues to help others become successful colleagues, students, athletes and champions.  His coaching credo is “Never Panic, Just Adjust” which is sound advice in working with the youth of today.

In addition, Don has contributed to the wrestling community as a whole by serving on the MHSAA Wrestling Rule Committee.
